Perspectives on the Exciting Research at ASCO From Navdeep Dehar, MD, MBT, CCRP
At the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting, Dr. Navdeep Dehar, a Medical Oncology Fellow at Queen's University in Ontario, sat down with Oncology Data Advisor to share the excitement of her first ASCO experience and the valuable research being presented there.
This podcast episode was recorded live at the 2022 ASCO Annual Meeting in Chicago by Oncology Data Advisor and ConveyMed.
Navdeep Dehar, MD, MBT, CCRP: My name is Navdeep Dehar and I am from Queen's University. I am a Medical Oncology Fellow there, and I am here to learn. This is my first ASCO.
Oncology Data Advisor: Awesome. So, what are some of the most exciting things that you've seen here at ASCO so far?
It's always important to see the person who you are giving the treatments to, not the disease you are treating

Dr. Dehar: I have attended the Presidential Address, which was exciting. I also heard different presentations in upcoming therapies in lung cancer and gastrointestinal (GI) cancers. The posters are amazing. It's really motivating to see how much research is going on in this area and how much more we need to do, right?
Over the past decade, I think the way people look at cancer and its treatment, and even the approaches to treatment, have developed so much that it's incredible to see how much people are motivated to do, plus how much needs to be done. Overall, my experience has been great and I'm still looking forward to more to come.
Oncology Data Advisor: That's very exciting, yes. So, what do you think are some of the most important things that you'll bring home from ASCO this year?
Dr. Dehar: I think the one big thing I learned in the last two days is that it's very important to recognize that research is good, but when we apply it to the real world, the patients are the key. It's always important to see the person who you are giving the treatments to, not the disease you are treating. I think that's the big take-home point for me. It will really help me when I'm going to start practicing and being able to apply all of this good research to those people.
Oncology Data Advisor: Absolutely. Is there anything else you would like to share?
Dr. Dehar: Well, thank you for giving me this opportunity to share my experience. It was very valuable, and I look forward to many more ASCOs to come.
Oncology Data Advisor: Awesome, thank you so much. I hope you enjoy the rest of the conference.
Dr. Dehar: Yes, I will. Thank you.
