    Expert Perspectives · Keira Smith · 2024-10-24

What Is the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF)?

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, OncData Editorial Board member Megan-Claire Chase sat down with Douglas Feil, Chief Program Officer at the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF), for a powerful conversation that included:

    • The history of NBCF and the story of how it was founded
    • NBCF’s mission of “Helping Women Now” and their three pillars of early detection, education, and support services
    • The role of patient navigation and oncology social work and how these services help patients and families overcome hurdles
    • The power of the “palpable hope” that research and education offer
    • NBCF’s Metastatic Breast Cancer (MBC) Retreats and the hope they provide for MBC patients
    • The reminder that everyone’s journey is different and ways in which NBCF helps address barriers in health equity
    • And more!

    How Can NBCF Help?

“Definitely visit our website, nbcf.org, if you have any questions about breast cancer. If you need support or access to help, that’s what we’re here for. You can reach out to us at [email protected]. Anything that you need help with, we’re here for you. Remember, breast cancer awareness is all year round. If your appointment is in October or November, go; but if your appointment is in February, go. If you’re having an issue getting there or getting to treatment, let us know, because we want to help.” – Douglas Feil
